Tis the Season

I absolutely love this time of year. Friends, family, Jesus, lights, trees...I could go on forever. I also love the oppportunity to create beautiful Christmas cards for a dear photographer friend to send out to all her family and friends. I had a lot of fun creating the design for these handmade vintage inspired beauties. We wanted something that others would see as fun, creative, innovative, and new. I really love the circle ornaments and hand written type. Hope you enjoy and make sure to check out Cat's site, her photography is amazing :)

Until another season,

Pen & Needle

I had the privilege of working on a social action project this semester in my M150 Media and Society course at IUPUI. Because of the up and coming nature of the Handmade artist culture, and the strong influence social media has had on its success, I decided to focus on getting the word out there in this fairly unknown genre. Below is the first issue of Pen & Needle magazine featuring 5 great handmade artists from all over the country. Hope you enjoy!

Thank you Alexz of Bird Trouble, Joel of The Mustard Room, Jaime of Julias Poppies Design, Allie of Allie Ruth Design, and Emily of Jones Design Company for all your insights. You all are great!!

The Value of Editing

One important thing I have learned in my last few months of photographing is the importance of retouching and how much of a difference it can truly make. Not only does it clean up an image, but it enhances, transforms, and accentuates an image's potentional. As much as I hate to say it, a "great photograph" can be taken by chance, mere luck, if the time, place, subject, and lighting happen to be right. However, great retouching takes time, effort, and a keen eye for artwork. I wanted to show a few examples of what retouching can do to an image, how it can change your perception and emotions related to that image. Take  a look:

It is crazy how much editing can to do to image. I am so thankful to have learned photoshop early, had time to explore, and am excited to continue to discover new things. Comment with an questions on what I did to create these beautiful images!
